Against a backdrop of towering red rocks and endless blue skies, celebrating the Fourth of July in Moab feels bigger and brighter. From fireworks and a patriotic parade to lemonade in the rodeo grandstands, Moab’s community spirit is at the heart of every celebration.

Official 4th of July Events in Moab

Whether you’re watching the star-spangled fireworks display in Downtown Moab or reveling in Grand County’s small-town nostalgia at the 4th of July Parade, remember to come prepared for fun. Bring folding chairs, claim your viewing spot early and bring plenty of snacks (did someone say watermelon?) and water.

Where to See Fireworks

As the sun sets and the red rocks fade into silhouette, Moab’s dazzling 4th of July fireworks display lights up the desert sky. Launching from Lion’s Back, a legendary 350-foot-tall sandstone ridge, the fireworks can be seen throughout Downtown Moab. Don’t forget to tune in to KCYN (97.1 FM) for a synchronized display.

Remember, the desert is dry—so leave the fireworks to the professionals and help protect Moab’s landscapes by following all local regulations.

4th of July Parade

Start your Independence Day off with plenty of red, white and blue at the Grand County 4th of July Parade. The parade begins at 9:00 a.m. and runs from north to south on 400 E, finishing at the Grand County High School. Arrive early, grab a spot along the route and enjoy this hometown tradition.

Things to Do during the 4th of July Weekend

The Fourth of July is more than a single day in Moab—it’s a full weekend of celebration and community spirit. With Moab as your base camp, you can explore the iconic American landscapes known around the world by day and join the festivities by night. As one of the busiest weekends of the year, a little planning goes a long way in helping you spend less time waiting and more time making memories.

Grand County Fair

Corn dog in one hand, lemonade in the other! Ring in America’s birthday at the Grand County Fair with a rodeo, exhibits, relay games, USA costume contest, cornhole tournaments and even an ugly 4th of July cake competition.

Best Parks for Gatherings

Swanny City Park and Rotary Park are local favorites for shady green expanses, picnic areas and barbecue grills. Both parks are ADA accessible and feature playgrounds, making them ideal for families with little ones.

Beat the Heat: Water-Based Adventures

When the afternoon temperatures climb, follow the locals to the water. Whether you’re floating, paddling or rafting the Colorado River, there’s no better way to cool off while taking in the stunning views of soaring ruby canyons. For an easy early morning waterfall hike, head to the Mill Creek Waterfall Trail, just past Rotary Park. The trail is mostly flat, but does include a scramble to reach the falls. Remember to bring plenty of water and plan to get your shoes wet.

Moab summers are best enjoyed with red dust on your cuffs and river water on your shoes!

Places to Stay near all the Action

Planning your 4th of July weekend in Moab? Staying near downtown means less time in the car and more time to join in the festivities. With streets closing for parades and holiday traffic throughout the weekend, proximity becomes your best travel strategy.

Downtown Lodging for Parade & Event Access

For maximum convenience, downtown stays like Homewood Suites, Moab Rustic Inn and Hotel Moab Downtown put you right in the center of it all. These “step out the door” locations make it easy to catch the parade, browse Main Street and see the fireworks without worrying about parking or driving.

Riverside & Scenic Lodging

For a quieter holiday experience, consider boutique lodges or campgrounds along Highway 128. This scenic corridor offers a more relaxed pace, surrounded by river views and dramatic canyon walls.
