What to Do when you visit Moab

Moab is at the hub of hundreds of miles of spectacular
scenic drives. Both Arches and Canyonlands National Parks have paved
scenic drives that will take you to all of the major viewpoints within
those parks. Outside of the national parks
Scenic Byways 128, 279, and 313 provide breathtaking views and access
to numerous hiking trails and countless ancient rock art sights. |

Hikers can choose from a wide variety of trails to match any experience level. From short ten minute walks leading right up to many of the largest Arches in Arches National Park, to multi-day backpacking trips into the remote backcountry of Canyonlands National Park, the Moab area has trails for everyone. |

Moab has an abundance of river recreation
opportunities. Visitors may select river environments that range from
the wilderness settings of Cataract and Desolation-Gray canyons to
the more easily accessible sections of the Colorado and Green Rivers.
While the area is known for its whitewater float trips, there are also
several scenic calm water segments suitable for canoes and kayaks.
Individuals or groups may raft the river on their own
or with a professional river outfitter. |

Moab's vibrant downtown district contains an outstanding combination of knowledgeable local guides and outfitters, diverse cuisine, and exciting nightlife. The town's thriving arts community features a large number of local art galleries and organizes many annual events. Moab also features an extensive restaurant and shopping district. |

Moab offers a huge variety of trails for mountain bikers of any experience
level, from beginners looking for a scenic ride through beautiful canyons
and mesa tops, to seasoned bikers looking for the ultimate challenge.
Moab is well known for the world famous, and highly technical, Slickrock
Bike Trail. However there are also
a number of easy and extremely scenic biking trails. The
Bar-M Loop, for example, provides a great introduction to the
varied terrain and beautiful scenery of our area. |

Moab contains a full range of backcountry trails, from very
easy 2WD backcountry scenic drives to the ultimate in challenging 4WD
trails. Whether you are out for a relaxing family drive, or in the mood
for some adrenaline pumping challenges, there is a trail to suit anyone's
taste. |

Moab hosts numerous events throughout the year. The town's arts community
organizes annual
events such as the Moab Art Walk, Artists Studio Tour, and the Moab
Arts Festival. Annual music events, such as the Moab Music Festival
in September and the Moab Folk Music Festival in November, provide
great music in a spectacular outdoor setting. And don't forget our world
famous Easter Jeep Safari! |

Rangers lead walks into the spectacular Fiery Furnace section of Arches National Park twice each day. These 2.5 to 3 hour hikes are moderately strenuous, requiring the occasional use of hands to scramble through narrow cracks and along narrow ledges. Sign up and pay your fee in person at the Arches Visitor Center no more than 7 days in advance of a walk. Maximum tour size is 25 people, 10 of whom may be from a single party. Hikes are offered from mid-March through October. |
ATV Riding
The Moab area has thousands of miles of unpaved roads on
which ATV's can travel. Much of the public land surrounding the National
Parks is open to ATV travel on existing trails. ATV enthusiasts can use
all of the popular Moab 4WD Trails, or explore the backcountry trails that
surround the Moab area. One area that is particularly popular
for riding ATVs - the White Wash Sand Dunes. The dunes
are located 48 miles northwest of Moab and are quite scenic, with
large cottonwood trees growing within them. Red cliffs to the east of the
dunes provide a dramatic backdrop.

Fishing
There are several stocked lakes in the La Sal Mountains that
yield trout. If your taste buds favor catfish, you may want to try fishing
the Green or Colorado Rivers.

Golfing
The Moab Golf Course is one of the most visually appealing
in the state with its contrast of smooth, bright greens set amid rough,
eroded red cliffs and boulders. The public course has 18 holes and a par
of 72. It is open seven days a week, year-round. It has a pro shop, a driving
range, and a snack bar open for breakfast and lunch. Cart rentals and lessons
are available.

Motorcycle Touring
Sweeping curves, twisting turns,
and scenery that takes your breath away. Could you ask for more? If so
Moab, Utah will deliver with arches, canyons, red rock formations, the
Colorado River Gorge, petrogylphs, dinosaur tracks, historical bridge,
and the La Sal Mountains. Home to three National Scenic Byways, one Scenic
Backway, two National Parks and one State Park, Moab is a perfect destination
for a motorcycling vacation or a great “extra day” stop on your way to

Scenic Flights
The wild and untamed landscape of southern Utah contains
some of the most rugged and inaccessible terrain in the country. Visitors
to this area are awestruck by the enormity of the landscape - its vast
size and colossal dimensions are overwhelming to the senses. Taking it
all in during a brief visit is impossible - exploring this spectacular
landscape can take a lifetime. However, even an hour-long scenic flight
will allow you to experience thousands of square miles of ruggedly spectacular
canyon country! No other mode of transportation will allow you to see so

Winter Activities
Located within the Manti-La Sal National Forest, the La Sals
offer many areas open to cross-country skiing, sledding and a small amount
of snowmobiling. For skiers, the La Sals offer both worked trails
and backcountry terrain.
