Project Name: U.S. 191 Over Colorado River Bridge
Colorado River Bridge Project - January 26, 2010Update: June 11, 2010
Traffic Impact: Traffic is reduced to 35 miles per hour in the work zone this week. One lane of traffic in each direction over the bridge. Bridge construction is not expected to impact traffic. Pedestrians and cyclists using the Colorado Riverway Bridge should stay clear of the staging area. Navigation on the Colorado River channel is also restricted due to the trestle bridge and pier work.
Project Schedule: Workers are forming the first segment of the second bridge over Pier 2 on the south side of the river. They will also be pouring concrete for Pier 3 on the north side of the river. Work on the south abutment and approach continues. Work on the north abutment is now beginning. The project is scheduled for completion by the end of this year.
Project Overview:
This project replaces the U.S. 191 bridge spanning the Colorado River near Moab with a new pair of twin bridges designed to current standards. The new structures will enhance capacity and safety for motorists and pedestrians while complimenting the surrounding environment. It will also include pedestrian and bike trail improvements, a turning lane at S.R. 128 and modifications to U.S. 191 where the bridge will connect with the existing highway.
